Born in 1981, Saikumar Apoorva is an Indian Carrom player and the defending World Champion in Women’s singles. She was born and raised in Hyderabad, Telangana, which also makes her the first world champion from the city in any sport. The Carrom board game interested her since she was a 10-year old child. She was inspired by her father when she once watched him play with his friends. She chose to pursue a career in the sport after consulting her father.
Saikumar Apoorva made her debut at the International Carrom Federation Cup held in France in the year 2003. She won the Women’s singles title.
In 2004, she won her maiden women’s singles title at the Carrom World Championship held in Columbo.
She was also a key member of the Indian Carrom Team which won the Carrom World Championship against Sri Lanka in 2016. In the same championship, she also won both women’s singles and women’s doubles titles with Kajal Kumari.
Saikumar Apoorva was also a part of the Indian Carrom Team that won the Carrom World Cup with a score of 3-0 against Sri Lanka. She defeated her fellow Indian player Kajal Kumari in the final match and won the women’s singles title.
In 2019, Saikumar Apoorva emerged victorious in the women’s singles at the Telangana State Ranking Tournament.
